that makes no sense. if it were just to be the same old stuff, theyd just make another expansion. naming it GUILD WARS 2 implies that they are making an entirely new game in the guild wars universe.

Unless Assassins get similar shadow stepping skills to the thief class from Baldur's gate, whereby you become invisible, i see little point to them in the future.

I have a list of what i want.
Dervish -> Merge into Monk. Make it the attack version of the monk, change smiting around.
Paragon -> Merge into Warrior. Make it the ranged version of the warrior, and reduce group buff effectiveness with proper counters.
Assassin -> Daggers go into Ranger. Everything else goes into Mesmer. Shadow Arts and Illusion should merge. This will give Mesmers more viability in PvE, while taking away the spiking dagger techniques.
Ritualist -> Object spells and Ritualist spirits should merge into the Necromancer. Weapon spells should be changed to be strippable and given to Monks or Eles.

You know, not for nothing but to everyone who says that we should get rid of the Ritualist profession or merge it with the Necromancer I say this...
I'm pretty sure most of you wouldn't want to go from looking like this..
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/gw...dyed_front.jpg
to this...
http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/a/a...dyed_front.jpg
...any time soon.
And to those who say that the profession should be merged with monk, do you really want to look like an overstuffed clown or completely cliché like those female monks you see walking around with the dual hair buns, fow armor, chaos gloves and everything else?
...Come on!

It doesnt matter. Fashions change over time. The physical look is irrelevant. What matters is a balanced and non-broken game mechanic.

So...
Pretty much, Mesmer is safe, because it has Izzy love. Assassin will probably go, and Paragon is a likely option.
Someone thought the storyline left an option for us to go to parts of Cantha and Elona. No. Read, don't skim. A dragon in the Crystal Desert either took out or is blocking the portal to Elona; Joko is in charge of Elona, scattering Sunspears into wandering the world like Jedi or serving him;and the dragon that raised Orr, coupled with pirates(GARRRR!), has blocked any access to Cantha. That and Cantha has become China in the 17th century: Isolationist.
I think they are doing a good thing in staging GW2 the way they did GW. They might add Cantha and Elona back as extensions. It would be interesting to see what form of faction there will be.

I think they won't chop anything out, but refine the classes a lot more, reduce thenumber of skills that does the same thing but named differently. certain skills will be removed.
I think after 200 or so years of trade and commerce before the dragons awakened, each continent has learned the ways of the 4 professions. also, the bloodstones could be unsealed, unleashing the lost and forbidden magics/professions so it's plausible that some professions will merge, become a new one, etc.

Ya, they may not chop them, but rework some of them, because if they chop someone's favorite profession, then that will just make them mad. Paragons will definitely get reworked. Rangers and necros need a tweak when it comes to energy management. Mesmers, assassins, ritualists, and devishes may also get reworked just a bit. Monks, elementalists, and warriors are pretty much fine they are now though.

I totally agree with this! It would bring so much more scope to attributes as well as meaning a less bloated profession system.
To the poster below above who said they wouldn't want this because of the appearance of characters: we have no idea how character customization will work in GW2. I doubt it will be the same system we see now, and I certainly am holding out high hopes for a far more details system of customization.

I'd say the ones that might get the boot are...
Paragon - A warrior using a spear... to all the Paragon lovers out there I am one as well, great class, its just an unfortunate truth.
Dervish - Another warrior but using a scythe...might somehow be combined with monks or something since they are "holy warriors" who knows.
Ritualist - Neat class but basically a monk/support character with the ability to use spirits.
Assassin - Could also get mixed in with Warrior since its a melee class.
Mesmer - I could see it get merged with the Necromancer since the Necromancers already have curses.

I would like to see Ritualist, Assassin, and Mesmer out of the game. Paragon and Dervish are both professions I really like.

I'd expect to see Attribute lines moved around regardless of the names given the professions in GW2. Either to make each profession more specialized, or more broad - given that the four add-on professions are relatively "broad" compared to the original core six, I wouldn't be surprised to see the four add-ons eliminated and their skills added to core professions much as lyra song suggested (i.e., giving the core six more options to take on other roles, such as monks with scythes). On the other hand, they could make the classes more specialized, for example by adding skills from Mysticism, Restoration, and Motivation to monks (all heal/buffs), Dagger and Scythe to Warrior (making them the only melee specialists), Rangers get Spear and Communing (ranged attacks and spirits), Necros get Shadow Arts, Eles get Channeling, etc. As for profession names, I don't really care that much.
